Who we are
A committee becomes an authority
Colorado has funded disability programs through specialty license plate revenue since 2016. HB 26-1382 turns that work into a permanent, professionally staffed public authority.
- 2016
Colorado Disability Funding Committee
The legislature creates the CDFC to oversee the Disability Support Fund and award competitive grants statewide. Millions of dollars follow, invested in independence, employment, and community inclusion.
- 2024
Colorado Disability Opportunity Office
The CDFC moves under the CDOO, which provides administrative and financial oversight and coordinates disability policy across state agencies. The CDOO leads policy; the CDFC manages grantmaking.
- 2026
HB 26-1382 passes
The law replaces the volunteer committee with an independent public authority: professional leadership and staff, modern governance, and expanded funding opportunities.
- 2027
The Authority begins work
Effective July 1, 2027, the Authority takes over grantmaking and begins its required benefits assistance program.
